WWE Brings Down Dublin With Action Packed Night

The WWE Wrestlemania revenge tour rolled into Dublin on Friday night, with some of Raw’s star performers putting on a great show in front of a packed out 02.

The opening bout saw R-Truth battle 3MB leader Heath Slater. Truth received a good pop from the Dublin crowd and had the firm backing of the fans who cheered him throughout. R-Truth would emerge victorious from this back and forth match when he hit Slater with his signature Lil Jimmy.   Read more

The Ballance Sheet #4 : Smart Fans Allow Wrestlers To Up Their Game

The crowd at the post-WrestleMania episode of Raw this week was, I think many would agree, one of the rowdiest and liveliest that WWE have had in quite some time. While some of the reactions weren’t the ones desired- particularly for the Sheamus/Orton match and Ryback’s heel turn- the noise throughout the night, from some of the bizarre antics and chants, made for an exceptionally entertaining show.

The crowd at the Izod Center in New Jersey was quite different from your regular episode of Raw, in that it was composed of holidaying die-hard fans from all over the world; a so-called “smart mark” audience. Get a “smart” audience on your side, and you’re pretty much made. Lose them, though, and the reaction you get could border on vitriolic, as seen from Sheamus and Orton’s match. Such is the interesting dichotomy of this particular branch of the wrestling audience. Read more

This subject has bothered me for a while NOW, what constitutes the term “Mark”? Is it going around wearing your favourite wrestler’s t-shirt/merch or is it knowing all the details about his/her matches/life etc? To me that’s a wrestling fan not a Mark but in wrestling circles to be called such a thing is derogatory because to talk about last night’s Raw/Smackdown/ppv or even TNA event is blasphemy and it is frowned upon. The Hardcore title is long gone from the WWE, but in it’s pomp during the Attitude Era, it was a constant source of entertainment and high quality matches. It really came into it’s own when Crash Holly brought in the 24/7 rule, meaning the title could be won anytime, anywhere.
