Bohemians Extra Time Double Seals Cup Victory

lyBohemians needed extra time to beat Bray Wanderers 4-2 in last night’s EA Sports Cup clash at Dalymount Park to seal a place in next Monday’s draw. The EA Sports Cup has been played down by many but is one which can not be thrown away by either side as it possesses a vital chance to get trophies in what is bound to be a hard season for both.

In a match that hadn’t had the highest of attendances the home side didn’t take long to break the deadlock either, they did so after seven minutes. Steven Traynor worked his way through the Bray Wanderers defence and fired a shot into the left hand corner of the net. Read more

LOI-Saints Emerge Victorious Amid Late Drama In Tallaght

faSt Patrick’s Athletic stand tall after two potentially season defining Dublin derbies saw them come out joint top of the pile. The Saints trounced managerless Shelbourne 3-0 on the northside while on the southside a late Ryan McEvoy goal salvaged a point for Bohemians at Shamrock Rovers.

A Christy Fagan brace combined with a goal from Chris Forrester was enough for Liam Buckley’s men to heap further misery on their beleaguered rivals. This victory lifts the Saints joint top of the table with reigning champions Sligo Rovers. O’Connor Enjoying Life In Orlando

Many footballers see America as a lucrative move to see out their career but not Dublin born Orlando City star James ‘Connor.

James has enjoyed an impressive career to date since leaving Ireland at the tender age of 16 playing for clubs such as Stoke City, West Brom, Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday before opting to head stateside.

32 year old James recalls his debut with fondness “As a 16 yr old to leave home  it was tough, but it made me grow up fast. I was really excited to get going and looking forward to it. I made my first appearance as a sub and I was really pleased to get onto the pitch.” Read more

Murphy Enjoying Rovers Return As Hoops Ready For Title Tilt

muFresh from drawing nil all with his former employers on Tuesday night, Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Barry Murphy revealed how he is enjoying his return to Tallaght.

Murphy will have been familiar with the coaching of now manager Trevor Croly as they both were on the St.Patrick’s Athletic side that finished runner up in the 2012 FAI Ford Cup final.

“I think we’re playing good football”, said Murphy, “it took time for us to gel as a squad but things are turning around now and we find ourselves on a unbeaten run and long may it continue.”

Shamrock Rovers may have drawn eight games from the opening thirteen fixtures but they haven’t lost in four games, if you are counting the Setanta Cup final win over Mick Cooke’s Drogheda United. Read more

Dublin Derby Ends All Square

The Dublin Derby between St Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers finished scoreless on Tuesday evening, a result that may dishearten the Saints who had the better of the opportunities.

Trevor Croly’s side returned to his old stomping ground on the back of their 7-1 Setanta Cup final win over Drogheda United on Saturday afternoon. While, Saints’ went into this game knowing a win is vital to keep them on the track of the title challengers Derry City and Champions Sligo Rovers.

Pats had the first chance of the game as Rovers looked a bit shocked by their rivals blistering start. Chris Forrester had the chance to find the back of the net inside two minutes. Christy Fagan broke through the Rovers defence and crossed in to find Forrester, who fired his shot straight at former teammate turned Rovers goalkeeper Barry Murphy. Read more

Hoops Revel In Setanta Cup Success

Shamrock Rovers lifted the Setanta Cup after a convincing 7-1 victory over Louth natives Drogheda United on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers got off to a blistering start with James Chambers, Sean O’Connor and Karl Sheppard putting clear daylight between the teams in the first half. Both Ronan Finn and Billy Dennehy managed a brace in the second half as Trevor Croly earned his first piece of silverware as Rovers manager A mere consaltion goal for Drogheda United was scored by former Shamrock Rovers man Gary O’Neill. Bray Snatch Rare Win At Tolka

pdBray Wanderers snatched a vital 2-1 win over relegation rivals Shelbourne at Tolka Park on Monday night to give themselves brief respite from their abysmal form of late.

The earliest of chances fell for Shelbourne as a ball headed over the top by Adam Hanlon found the on-rushing Mark Leech who failed to beat Seagulls keeper Darren Quigley in a one on one situation after two minutes. Read more

Candystripes Set To Push Sligo All The Way

Declan Devine’s Derry City have enjoyed a blistering start to the 2013 League of Ireland new season. The Northern Irish club sit at the top of the tree after the first round of fixtures were completed on Friday night, chasing them, Sligo Rovers who collected their first league title last November. This time around we’re looking at whether the challenge of Derry City will fade away throughout the league season (from here to October for those who do not know) or will we be looking at the eventual winners of the Airtricity League Premier Division.

After week eleven, Derry City sit top of the league table level on points with second place Sligo Rovers. The two sides, before writing this article, are in action on this evening at the Showgrounds. The winner, if there is one however, will go three points clear of the opposition which at this stage is already a vital chance to prove their title chances in front of a bumper away crowd expected to travel to Sligo on tonight. LOI: Late Strikes Make For Dramatic Friday Evening

Week 11 came to a close Friday evening, around quarter to ten, and we knew exactly who stood where. Ian Baraclough knew his side had dropped to second place after title chasers Derry City had won and unforgettably his side, had not. Sligo picked up just the point after they could only muster a draw at Shamrock Rovers.

Reading loanee Karl Sheppard got a late equaliser to deny Sligo the chance to snatch a ‘smash-and-grab’ win in Dublin. As for Derry, they managed a late rally to capture a win against Limerick, despite striker Rory Patterson appearing to be  offside when he netted for the winner for the Candystripes. Read more
