House Of Pain : Life Beyond The Squared Circle

dannyWhat is wrong with wrestlers being wrestling fans?

This subject has bothered me for a while NOW, what constitutes the term “Mark”? Is it going around wearing your favourite wrestler’s t-shirt/merch or is it knowing all the details about his/her matches/life etc? To me that’s a wrestling fan not a Mark but in wrestling circles to be called such a thing is derogatory because to talk about last night’s Raw/Smackdown/ppv or even TNA event is blasphemy and it is frowned upon.

I totally get the etiquette behind it, but for a former American trainer (and I use the term trainer very lightly) to tell us at that time not to purchase tickets for the latest WWE show because were being “marks” is quite frankly a load of b***ox. I had tickets bought for my birthday which had been shortly before the event so I brought my little nephew and we had a great time. Then a few days later I get wind that somebody had told him I had been at said show because he had made some smart remarks about it, my answer?? Big f**kin deal it’s not like everybody at the show knew I was a wrestler plus anybody who did know where more than likely wrestlers themselves, does that make them Mark’s too??

I mean god forbid you couldn’t still be a wrestling fan even though that’s the reason you trained to become a wrestler in the first place. Another thing I don’t get is how some wrestlers totally dismiss wrestling on TV now and there open about it on the likes of Facebook or Twitter when only two years previously they were talking about the previous night’s Raw, sounds to me like they want to be in “the cool gang”.

The thing is I have a life outside wrestling with friends and family and people who I actually get on with but also I have a select few in wrestling who I consider friends but that’s going off topic now, but to bring it back in I understand locker room etiquette and I respect that and adhere to it but what I do in my time outside of wrestling or on Facebook is my business,

That’s all for now, glad I got that off my chest and whether anybody likes this or not is irrelevant to me because it’s my opinion and that’s that so until next time, take it ham and cheesy

Excellent article. Totally agree with you Danny. Its bizarre how 99% of Pro Wrestlers got into the business because they watched it as a kid and were huge fans yet they get stick for watching it. Its like calling a Footballer a MARK for watching football

    Hey Davin,

Thank you very much for your comment, behind the scenes in the wrestling world is a weird one but you have to know the difference between going up to a big name wrestler if there booked on the same show and telling them how much of a big fan you are etc and watching wrestling in your own time, the former is being a mark and that part i understand
