Cooling Cucumber
Cucumbers have many health benefits. As they are 95% water, they keep the body hydrated, and regulate body temperature. This is especially useful in the summer, when the weather is warmer. And should you overdo it in the sun, the skin of a cucumber is great for relieving sunburn. Due to their cooling effect, sliced cucumber makes great eye pads as they reduce puffiness and dark circles. Many skin care specialists have realised the benefits of cucumber, and have included it as an active ingredient in their products. From shampoo to eye cream, we look at a few items available from your nearest beauty counter.
Darphin, Firming wrinkle repair serum
This serum combines the natural ingredient, cucumber, with other natural and high-tech ingredients to target wrinkles. It should be applied before bed time to firm your skin overnight.
It is really light and is quickly absorbed into the skin, without being oily. While my skin definitely looked fresher after a week of using this, I’m not convinced it’s worth the price-tag, retailing at €135.
Garnier, Care and Control Cream
This moisturiser contains 100% natural cucumber extract, and claims to be “ultra-efficient”, especially for oily skin. This can be applied after your usual cleanser and toner.
Considering this is aimed at oily skin, it is quite a heavy moisturiser, and can be slow to absorb fully into the skin. It does leave your skin feeling hydrated though, and is definitely worth the money. Retailing at a mere €5.40, this is a good choice for anyone suffering from oily skin.
Olay, Eye Transforming Cream
This eye cream contains 7 vitamins and minerals, including cucumber and is designed to repair skin’s moisture levels and maintain even skin tone.
Just the tiniest bit of this cream is needed around the delicate eye area, as it is really rich. It does help to reduce dark circles, but does little to aid any puffiness around the eye area. Selling for €9.70, it won’t break the bank, but won’t work any miracles on your eyes either.
Modern Organic Products, Mixed Greens Shampoo
This may sound like a menu from your local health food restaurant, but this shampoo really contains cucumber, artichoke, watercress and parsley, specially targeting dry hair.
It genuinely leaves your hair feeling softer and more radiant, and smells so fresh. Priced at €14.35, it is an indulgent purchase, but your hair will thank you for it.
Ole Henriksen, Balancing Cucumber Face Tonic
This is a toning mist, containing cucumber, chamomile and ginseng to clam and soften skin. It should be used daily.
Light and refreshing, this definitely does what it promises to do. Your skin instantly feels refreshed, and invigorated. Selling for €24.95, it is a pay day purchase, but it will last is great for anyone suffering from dehydrated skin.
